A individual accused with stalking Kate McCann allegedly deposited her a voicemail message which posed: "imagine I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, 24, who a jury heard has repeatedly claimed she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are facing charges accused with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned call records and information obtained from phones logged Ms Wandelt consistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a biological test throughout that period.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - at the age of three during a family holiday in Portugal - is one of the most publicized missing child cases and continues to be unsolved.

'I Do Not Need Money'

Another phone message, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt stating: "I realize I'm fat and plain like Madeleine was, but I feel what I believe."

While one recording of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's recording said: "What if there is a tiny probability that I am Madeleine? Then what? Isn't that important for you?"

"I am not seeking money, I maintain a life here in Poland, I only wish to understand," the recording stated.

The panel was informed that via electronic messages, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a genetic test, sent childhood photos to her phone in a bid to demonstrate a likeness to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and claimed to have "recollections" from a childhood with the McCanns.

The investigator, an investigator with law enforcement who collated the information, told the court there "seemed to lack any responses" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt also contacted close associates of the McCanns, as per the communication logs.

On that date, Gerry McCann responded to a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."

On that occasion Ms Wandelt deposited a voicemail on Mrs McCann's answerphone declaring "I will persist and I plan to establish my position."

The court learned the co-defendant established a connection through digital means with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a trip to the McCanns' property in the county in last December.

Call logs showed Mrs Spragg had communicated via communication app to Mrs McCann to state the news outlets had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she ought to be considered genuine in the time preceding the trip to Rothley, that area, in that winter.

The court was told correspondence between the two accused, in last November, planning attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's genetic material from her bins or from silverware at a eating establishment.

"We have to take action," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.

On the occasion of the trip to their residence, the defendant sent a text which stated: "We find ourselves sitting adjacent to the McCanns' house with our lights out similar to private investigators. I desired to do this with Peter Andrew I hadn't anticipated I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."

The proceedings continues.
