Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the early candidates under consideration to replace Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.

The previous coach was sacked on the weekend after the squad's ten-game without a victory start to the top-flight season.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous links to the team - are among the names to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is presently at another club, which would pose a potential hurdle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

However the ex- Luton head coach - who made more than 100 of appearances for the club during his playing career - is said to be a strong candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the club directors as they start the process of appointing a fresh manager.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a surprising appointment given he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham player is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not need to provide any compensation.
