The Pharaohs Bench Mohamed Salah as Angola Face Afcon Exit.

A thrilling set-piece moment from the match.

The Angolan winger curled a superb free-kick against the post as Angola and Egypt played out a draw.

Anfield forward Mohamed Salah and Etihad counterpart Omar Marmoush watched from the bench as the group leaders Egypt played out a draw with Angola at the Afcon 2025.

The record winners, having already secured top spot, deployed an completely rotated starting XI and were missing a clinical finish in the Moroccan city.

Angola, who required a victory to stand a chance of progressing, will now endure an anxious period to see if their two points is sufficient to advance for the knockout stage as one of the highest-ranked third-place teams.

Benin, Sudan and Mozambique are assured of at least third place in their pools, all having three points.

Match Highlights

Winger Fredy struck the outside of a post for Angola early in the second half, while Zizo – one of three players introduced by the Pharaohs – stung goalkeeper Hugo Marques' palms with a shot from inside the box.

Salah and Marmoush had scored earlier in the tournament in comeback wins over Zimbabwe and South Africa, respectively.

Egypt will remain in Agadir to meet a runner-up from another group next Monday, with their next rival to be determined after the group stage finishes on Wednesday.

In the other Group B finale, South Africa's victory over Zimbabwe propelled Bafana Bafana through automatically, putting Angola on the outside looking in.

Pharaohs Feel Salah and Marmoush Presence

The Egyptian captain observing the match from the sidelines.

Mohamed Salah watched Egypt fail to score in an Afcon match for the first occasion since the 2021 tournament decider.

With top spot secured, Egypt coach Hossam Hassan likely expected a more convincing display from his second string.

The striker, who scored four goals at the 2023 finals, created an first-half chance for Hossam Abdelmaguid, but the defender directed his header over the target.

Angola, making seven changes themselves, nearly went ahead when Chico Banza combined with Mabululu before firing a low drive wide.

The first half ended without a shot on target, although Fredy forced goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir into action with a powerful long-range attempt.

The Palancas Negras skipper was the likeliest source, watching a set-piece elude the goalkeeper but clatter against the woodwork.

At the other end, Salah Mohsen was left in disbelief after nearly tapping in a cross, only for the goal to be ruled offside.

Late attempts from M'Bala Nzola and Hamdi Fathy failed to break the deadlock, ensuring the match ended goalless.

For Angola, last-eight participants in 2023, their disjointed showings in Morocco will raise questions about their mid-tournament managerial change.
